Any and all suggestions are read, some might be ignored and hell some might be rediculed; but at least they are all read and considered.

If you want to see a feature in DVDCrate.com speak up! Let us know.

I think good features would include:
-The ability to put the same movie in different folders (ie...watched, owned, wishlist)
-Some of us have so many movies it's hard to choose what to watch. Sometimes I sit and stare at my movies for an hour deciding what to watch. A random selector to help choose would be a nice feature. Even better if you could enter certain movies and let it choose for you. Example: I wanna watch Sin City, The Dark Knight, or the Matrix but can't decide. Enter them so it can choose for me.
-Monetary value of collection would be nice.
-Top categories for movies would be a neat addition (ie... Top ten directors, top ten actors)
On a closing note many people used dvdspot and loved it. Take a cue from it and even improve upon what it did.

On a side note I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to make this site. As a former dvdspoter I've started using dvdaf again and have never been completely happy with it. Hope the site turns out awesome.

to help you add dvds to site you should have an option for users to add dvds to the site otherwise you will need to add dvds from other coutries, special packaging (i.e Best Buy Exclusive Steelbook packaging for the bond blu rays).

One of the more useful features of DVDSpot had been that each registered DVD had included the bar code number and estimated commercial value, and that one's home page, besides stating the total number of DVDs collected, also had the accumulated dollar value of the collection. I had my insurance company aware of the site, so that in event of a disaster an itemized record of my collection's contents and total worth would be recorded somewhere. If DVDCrate is being considered as a potential heir to the the throne left vacant by DVDSpot, then this service might be considered vital.

From a strictly competitive viewpoint, it had also been fun to see a listing of the top twenty largest collections and their members. just to see how one's own collection compared.

I look forward to seeing the new site when it becomes active.

Both of these are already in the DB and just need to pages written. In other words its in the feature set already.

I also liked this feature from DVDSpot so I am somewhat using some of there ideas. Not sure if I need to worry about copyright issues with copying DVDSpot too much, as it appears the site is totally defunct.

Finished up the member enrollment, editing and password reset today. Onto the DVD view and list pages.

Thanks for the input,
CmdrTallen

One thing DVDSpot didn't do (I don't think anyway) was provide a due date for loaned out movies. This is something that might be nice to have, but should be optional. It would also be kinda cool to set up email reminders based on the due date. Just a thought. Thanks for keeping us posted!

An iPhone-friendly version of the site would be fantastic. The ability to pull up the site and have a quick-view to select a movie to watch or view the list while out shopping would be great. Just my $0.02. ~C

I completely agree. Maybe even some kind of native app if possible.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had already planned on a mobile (WAP or Mini HTML), just not for my initial release [-x

Keep 'em coming.

Hello Commander

A few of the things I really wanted that DVDSpot didn't do -
1. A printable list of all DVDs, sortable in (at least) 3 ways (Title, Director, running time would be my wishes, maybe theatrical date as well).
2. A quick way to find other members owning each title, to provide me ideas of new stuff to get.
3. A list of previous and subsequent editions for each title - So if I buy something, and check DVDCrate only to realize there's a better edition, I can quickly return it or whatever.
4. A database that includes DVD magazines like Wholphin and the much missed Res - so that each issue isn't a separate title, but my collection reveals which issues are owned.
5. An easy link to dvdpricesearch.com, mysimon.com or some other service to quickly find the value of used titles. (If you do this right, you can pull in some of the money I'll be spending there.)

Obviously, these are things I can live without, but I would definitely like to have any or all if possible. Thanks!

Kwaherini.

Another thing DVDSpot didn't do was to allow the reason a movie received a particular rating to be entered for the movie. I make decisions for both me and for my kids based on that information. I don't know how easy it is to collect that information, but most movies released in the last few years include that information by the rating.

Not critical, but a nice-to-have.

Great simple idea! I added this today.

All you guys have great ideas. Working up a list. Will keep the running list out on a Roadmap page.

Right now its that damn CSS layout that is slowing me down, making magic but gah! CSS can get very tricky. But hey! no Ma no tables! Will allow for different themes (ala a 4th of July theme).

Thanks again!

Note to self; gotta setup a Pricegrabber account to sneak in some revenue ;)

Sorry for the double post.. but I figured I should move this here instead..

There are Flash Apps that let you scan UPC's with a Webcam, you could intergrate that app into an add to special "add to my collection page", that would ROCK!. No need for a barcode scanner, I think that would a very unique feature to integrate. There are quite a few scripts out there and flash code, and one website that offers you use of theirs for simply leaving their watermark name at the bottom left.

also,
I see that UPC Input is in that current feature list, but is Mass uploading via TXT? I always get liek 50 DVD's then enter them all at once, so I need mass upload heh.

Just checking to see..

~Capn..

Also, 20 dollar donation from me when you get this puppy up.. if it's even 1/3 as useful as DVD SPOT.. I'm gonna use and love it.

Side note for later would be, allowing users to export their files (In Detail) in several formats.

This might be too much work, but how about one the DVD's page, there's a spot where you can put down an Easter Egg section. I for one, love finding them, and you can do it on a user based submission. It might be a little bit too much work, but I just think it would be cool.

Doh! I forgot all about the Easter Eggs. Great catch! I will put that in a section on the DVD tonight.

Things are coming along great!

So glad t hear this. In the Spot, I had a few eggs listed, and relied on it mostly to remember how to find the chronological Memento, or how to find anything on Memento, for that matter.

Anyone have any recommendations of quick ways to find all my eggs? Is there a definitive list somewhere?

Ooh, that's an excellent idea. A good app to based it off from would be iFlix - now just to find a coder for that.

I think request should each go in their own thread, this is getting a bit unwieldy. I will lock this thread and you good folks can post request suggestions each in their own thread.

Thanks!
